My Books
I have published nine books, including major editorial projects The Cambridge Companion to Historical Archaeology (edited with Mary Beaudry, 2006), The Oxford Handbook of Material Culture Studies (edited with Mary Beaudry, 2010), World Archaeology at the Pitt Rivers Museum: a characterization (edited with Alice Stevenson, 2013) and the six-volume A Cultural History of Objects (with William Whyte, 2021). My latest books are Lande: the Calais “Jungle” and Beyond (with Sarah Mallet, 2019), Archaeology and Photography (edited with Lesley McFadyen, 2019) and The Brutish Museums: the Benin Bronzes, Colonial Violence, and Cultural Restitution (2020, named one of the New York Times Best Art Books of 2025).
Published in May 2025, my most recent book Every Monument Will Fall: a story of remembering and forgetting is with Penguin (named one of Art Forum’s Best Books of 2025). For future books I am represented by Charlie Brotherstone at Aeventis Creative.
